Bredonborough A grey amp wet

Bredonborough.

A grey & wet morning in Bredonborough.

An arising issue is attracting my attention.

Who is Harry Shearer?

… Reading Roberts diaries, one is frequently reminded of "Endless Grief" & the psychological torture endured by the poor artist. Sometimes you could be forgiven for thinking "Is Robert ’hamming-it-up-a-bit’ for effect because it can’t be that bad"???
Well I was listening to a Radio 4 programme the other day where Miles Kington was interviewing Harry Shearer.... who’s he you ask??? You may remember him from Spinal Tap (as the Bass player)… Harry talks at length about the Fascist management regimes working on the Saturday Live show & the ever-so-wonderful management strategies working on the ’Simpsons’ at the FOX Corporation.
It’s not really Crimson or even Prog related, but it’s a good insight into how, I suspect, ALL artists get treated, it’s not just the music industry you know!!!

Firstly, in my public comments I have understated Endless Grief, what actually took place, the causes & characters, and the repercussions. Regrettably, no hamming at all.

Secondly, I comment on my own field of action, because I have hands-on experience of it. On that basis, can I believe that artists in other areas get stupped?

Given Robert Fripp’s views on copyright infringment, I’d like to get a sense of the opinions held by people here on the closing down of the Online Guitar Archive (OLGA) and a few other guitar tab sites.

The industry lawyers say that the existance of such places breaks copyright, and that the owners of the sites are making money. The owners counter that the TABS are interpretations of the works involved, and are protected under US law, and that they make no money.

Thoughts?

My own approach is to address the intent. What is the aim of the tab site/s? If it is to support musical practice, it’s fine with me. If the aim is to generate income for the ISP, while declaring an aim of developing musical practice, I begin to twitch. That is, if this is a genuine pro bono operation, for the good & love it, within my own area I don’t have objections.

The key, for the user/tab downloader is this: make an effort; make this your own.

19.12  This late morning a Rock God & His Wife set off from Bredonborough for Oxfordshire: we had been invited to a Garden Party at Eno Manor, and eagerly accepted.

This was a charming & delightful afternoon; charming & delightful in the full English sense of the words. A local brass band were playing as we arrived, followed by African music over lunch with the players set up in the conservatory, followed by local am-dram on the lawn with props battling the gusty draughts, followed by a local neo-prog group in the barn. Very local, very charming, very delightful. The Captain was concerned that the marquee tent would blow away, and with it a proportion of the guests; interesting people, and a wonderful cross-section of societies, as one would anticipate at an event of the Enos.

One guest enquired after the Cotswold Gnomes & their about-to-be-becoming download of Unreleased Works Of Startling Genius.

Home, and continuing to reflect on the arising issue.
